KLAD Partners with ARC Specialties to Create Joint Venture KLADARC
Houston, Texas - February 4, 2008. Houston-based companies KLAD Manufacturing Company, Ltd. and ARC Specialties, Inc. have entered into an agreement to create a 50/50 joint venture that will combine the engineering, production, and operations of the two company's patent-pending cladding technology.
The joint venture, named KLADARC, will be headquartered in Houston, Texas adjacent to KLAD's facility. KLADARC will specialize in producing Hot-Wire Alloy 625 GTAW overlay for subsea pipe among other applications. Overlay pipes, bends, valves, fittings, and other components to be manufactured by the new venture will meet the Quality Assurance requirements necessary for the petroleum industry's 21st century focus on producing oil from safety-critical environments.
"The oil field has changed. All the easy oil is gone and what is left is highly corrosive. KLADARC's cladding technology controls this corrosion," said Dan Allford, President of ARC Specialties. "Protection from pipe failure prevents oil spills and allows for oil production in new deep water sour oil fields and in environmentally sensitive areas."
The new venture will build upon KLAD's experience in overlay and cladding metallurgical solutions for the oil and gas industries, and ARC Specialties' leadership in welding automation. KLADARC's pipe cladding system will weld layers of corrosion resistant alloys, or CRAs, onto the inside of steel pipe with machined precision and efficiency. The metallurgical bond between the steel pipe and the CRAs creates pipeline with the strength of steel, and the corrosion resistant properties of CRAs.
Data logging software will support the JV's welding system by providing full traceability of the overlay process, and allowing for quantitative analysis opportunities.
"KLADARC's latest-generation of Hot-Wire GTAW weld overlay machines employ full parameter controls, which captures data and creates a complete history of the overlays," said Dr. Bhaven Chakravarti, President of KLAD. "This capability will enhance reliability and quality, which is fundamental to KLADARC's commitment to providing solutions to the challenges in our clients' projects."
About the Products in the Venture
KLADARC provides superior weld overlay using a patent-pending, dual torch welding system. The overlay in the clad pipe produced meets Quality Assurance standards of 3mm minimum thickness with low dilution in the deposit (less than 5% Fe). Automatic ARC Voltage Control allows for fine-tuned manipulation of the dual torches' positions in real-time. CCTV remote weld monitoring views the weld deposit to aid in immediate torch adjustments, and creates a video record of the overlay process.
