Overlay Pipe

The KLADARC advanced hot wire GTAW Tripulse Overlay System is the next level in cladding technology compared to traditional, cable-based systems. KLADARC delivers deposits with superior chemistry. The technology and design advances developed by KLADARC have produced an overlay pipe with unmatched quality, while enhancing the reliability of the product and benefiting the long-term assurance of the application.

The standard capabilities of the system are:

  • Deposits a two-layer Alloy 625 overlay with nominal thickness of 3.5 mm and guaranteeing the 3.0 mm minimum thickness.
  • Guarantee the deposit chemistry to meet the maximum 5% Fe requirement. Typical readings are between 3% and 5%.
  • 100% LPT inspection of the overlay.
  • 100% UT inspection for bonding when specified, meeting various acceptance criteria requirements for different projects.
  • PMI of the deposit chemistry, starting with the filler metal and at least one (1) reading of the overlay per joint.
  • Copper sulfate test of the weld overlay surface to check for 'holidays' in the overlay and iron contamination.
  • The design advances are:

  • The ID overlay is performed using twin torches, each with AVC controls and monitored real time with video cameras.
  • Capability to oscillate the arc, thereby providing a puddle with longer residence time to bond and eliminate common problems of such overlays, that of leaving a through thickness hole with the potential of exposing the underlying carbon steel pressure boundary to the corrosive process stream.
  • Using the Tripulse system (patent pending) for the overlay, which utilizes a specially designed waveform to maximize bead to bead tie-in, and to give a flatter bead, smoother and uniform profile.
  • The capability to data log all weld parameters and video of the welding, if required, for reliability assessments and archival requirements.
